Kananaskis Nordic Spa

Our weekday mountain getaway in K-country.

This week we planned a mountain getaway and had great experience at the Kananaskis Nordic Spa. We booked a weekday because we heard that weekends are super packed. Keep reading for our full day experience!

We arrived in about an hour from Calgary and were delighted to see how close all the mountains were. Check in was a breeze. They handed us our plaid bathrobes(scroll to see how comfy and chic they were) and wristband locker key.

The Kananaskis Nordic Spa has a full itinerary of pools after you enjoy your massage. To start they suggest to dip in the Hot pool followed by the Sauna and Steam cabins to get yourself all toasty. We loved the Alchemist and Eucalyptus Steam Room which smelled awesome and definitely opened up our pores. We moved on to the Sauna Barrels which comfortably sat 6-8 people, but we were lucky enough to have it to ourselves. The Banya and Finnish saunas were also great and fit many people and had a cold bucket you can tip to cool yourself off. All saunas had fresh water stations to keep you get hydrated.

Next up, we loved the Exfoliation chamber! It’s a steam room with showers and they provide a little pot of mixed salt and essential oils to scrub your entire body. After this our skin felt clean, smooth, and smelt fresh! We then dipped and relaxed in the warm pool and then took a mini-plunge in the cold pool.

All the amenities are so contemporary especially designed to keep you comfy and warm. From the Heated outdoor hammocks to sitting by the campfire, each aspect is designed to help you relax and enjoy yourself.

After the three pools, steam cabins, and saunas we started to get hungry.  So we visited the Two Trees Bistro. It had a variety of items and alcoholic drinks on the spa menu.

We enjoyed the Soup of the Day (sweet potatoe butternut squash) and the Open Faced sandwich sharing platter (An assortment of open-faced sandwiches served on fresh-baked bread: - Salmon rillettes with avocado & horseradish aioli, pickled ginger and seaweed - Alberta beef, caramelized red onion, candied pecans, brie and arugula - Fresh-roasted & pickled garden vegetable salad with basil aioli and balsamic of Modena - Prosciutto on olive bread with truffle aioli, baby red romaine and pickled cantaloupe)- our fave was the Alberta beef with Brie and Salmon Rillettes.

After lunch, we headed to the massage waiting room and played some scrabble to pass the time. There was fresh flavoured water and fruit available here so it was the perfect dessert after our yummy lunch at Two Trees Bistro.

We have to say, we felt utterly relaxed after our experience at the Kananaskis Nordic Spa. The change rooms were awesome too! No need to pack a bunch of stuff, literally everything is provided. From razors, shampoo, conditioner, body wash for the shower to curling irons, gel, lotion, hairspray, deodorant, and lovely makeup mirrors in the dressing room. We were thoroughly impressed and loved the modern contemporary decor and wood stone accents.

It was a great spa-day full of rest and relaxation and we will definitely be back! Visit Kananaskis Nordic Spa Here’s some tips: • get there early in the day to take advantage of the pools, saunas and steam cabins. • We enjoyed massage with mint oil - it gave a tingle on our neck • no need to take flip flops, sandals are provided • the spa is right next to the Pomeroy Hotel so you have more food choices if you have time. • Bring a book, we forgot one, but it would’ve been nice to read while resting in the outdoor heated hammocks
