Tour of Asia @ Mister Chen’s

Upon entering Mister Chen’s we knew we were not in Kansas anymore. The ambiance is super modern and we loved the Asian inspired decor and red paper lamps.

Last week we were invited for a Tour of Asia, a dinner series where the Chef featured a 4-course dinner and each course was from a different country.

We started by creating our own dipping sauces from a variety of flavors such as fresh garlic, fresh ginger, banana ketchup, fish sauce, fermented shrimp paste, hoisin, soy sauce, and peanut sauce. We also loved the cute place mat outlining all the different types of sauces and the menu for the night.

We sat down with owner Shaun to chat about the Mister Chen's contemporary vibe and fresh take on Asian food. He explained that his goal is to bring out Asian flavors in a fun new way and loves coming up with new dishes.

Vibrant Vietnam

After our cocktail and creating our dipping sauces, we were whisked away to Vietnam with Lobster Mango Mint Salad Rolls and Sugar Cane Shrimp. We used our own concoction of peanut sauce and hoisin as our dipping sauce. The Salad rolls were so fresh and flavorful.

Flavourful Phillipines

The Chef took us to the Philippines next where we really enjoyed the Adobo Chicken Satay and Fillipino Pinoy style ribs. We used the banana ketchup to spice things up a bit with some fresh garlic and ginger. The ribs were so tender and we fell in love with the glaze! Yum!

Tasty Thailand

We then traveled to Thailand with some amazing green curry mussels and grilled Bao. This was our favorite dish of the night! The green curry was hot and so tasty and the mussels were cooked wonderfully. We dipped our grilled bao to suck up all remaining green curry in our bowl.

All of the dishes were so fun and flavorful and we really enjoyed mixing our own dipping sauces.

Last but not least, the Mango Cotton Candy dessert with fresh mango and mango sorbet totally hit the spot and was oh so pretty!

Can't wait for the next Tour of Asia dinner series!
